Synopsis

A comic-book-styled DJ superhero races through a retro-futurist world on a motorcycle, confronting a succession of exaggerated threats and surreal action set pieces. White-faced and dressed in a vivid red costume, the hero moves through a fast, colorful landscape built around speed, impact, and rhythmic editing. Rather than presenting a conventional storyline, the video works like a compressed arcade adventure, matching the remix's harder, more energetic feel with comic-book imagery and relentless visual momentum.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The superhero featured in the video is based on Deadman, the lesser-known DC Comics character. The video reimagines him as a DJ hero rather than using his original identity and mythology directly.
  • The visual treatment helped inspire the remix. Philippe Zdar later explained that Cassius felt the original recording was not energetic enough for the completed video, so the duo reworked the track. The remix became the version most closely associated with the single's success.
  • "Cassius 1999" began as a tribute to Stevie Wonder's "Too High," particularly its bass-driven feel and breakbeat character.
  • The remix contains a sample from Donna Summer's "(If It) Hurts Just a Little," adding a disco source to the track's French house and hip-hop production style.
  • The single reached No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart, helping establish Cassius beyond the French electronic scene.
