Synopsis

Air wander through New York City and encounter a small toy monkey, which sparks a colorful fantasy. In their imagination, the monkey grows to enormous proportions, takes flight, and journeys toward the Moon. The fanciful animated sequences contrast with black-and-white footage of the duo moving through recognizable city locations, including Central Park and the area around the United Nations. The video shifts between ordinary street life and childlike cosmic adventure, matching the song's dreamy, detached atmosphere.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Sexy Boy" was released in 1998 as the lead single from Air's debut album, "Moon Safari," and became the duo's international breakthrough.

• The phrase "sexy boy" reportedly came from Jean-Benoit Dunckel, who said it spontaneously while Nicolas Godin was playing the song's central riff.

• Godin later explained that the track's distinctive vocalized bass sound was made with a Minimoog and a talkbox, rather than a vocoder.

• The video combines black-and-white live action with brightly colored animation, creating a contrast that became closely associated with Air's early visual identity.

• The New York setting includes footage filmed around Central Park and the United Nations headquarters.

• Beck contributed the "Sex Kino Mix" of the song, one of several notable remixes issued with the single.

• The video received frequent exposure on JBTV, helping introduce Air to American television audiences during the late-1990s alternative and electronic music crossover.
