Synopsis

The Kinks turn the pressure of life on the road into a surreal mini-movie. Ray Davies appears as a down-and-out figure moving through a crowded London Underground, where commuters suddenly break into choreographed movement. The action then shifts to a seaside amusement setting, mixing fairground imagery with scenes of the band performing in costume. Former Kinks drummer Mick Avory appears as a busker whom Ray encounters and eventually sends on his way, adding an affectionate link to the band's recent past.

• The promotional video was made for the song's 1984 release on *Word of Mouth*, The Kinks' first album to feature the track.

• Mick Avory had recently left The Kinks after nearly two decades with the group. His appearance as a hapless busker gives the clip an unusually playful acknowledgment of the lineup change.
