Synopsis

Lindsey Buckingham enters a room carrying a guitar and a mysterious box, then discovers that reality is not as stable as it appears. A mirror becomes a passage into a chaotic alternate space, where the guitar seems to play itself and Buckingham encounters floating globes, suns, goldfish, and multiple versions of his own identity. As the imagery grows increasingly disorienting, the video turns the song's theme into a surreal descent through fractured perception, blending theatrical performance with elaborate visual effects.

Factoids & Trivia

• Although often associated with Fleetwood Mac, "Go Insane" is a Lindsey Buckingham solo video from his 1984 album of the same name, released while Fleetwood Mac was between albums.

• The video was filmed in England alongside the promotional film for "Slow Dancing." Buckingham later described both projects as much more ambitious than his earlier "Trouble" video, with denser editing, more shots, and extensive effects.

• Buckingham said the conceptual ideas for the two videos were not his, but he felt their offbeat visual style suited his sensibilities better than the more conventional Fleetwood Mac video format.

• The video earned four nominations at the 1985 MTV Video Music Awards: Most Experimental Video, Best Special Effects, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography. It did not win in any of those categories.
