Synopsis
In a public swimming pool, a group of synchronized swimmers rehearses a routine with careful, almost mechanical precision. As the performance gathers momentum, the ordinary practice session slips into a vivid fantasy, with the swimmers appearing in ornate costumes and staging an extravagant aquatic spectacle. Their movements become more theatrical and dreamlike, culminating in sparkling caps, dramatic formations, and fireworks. The video balances the discipline of synchronized swimming with the song's bright, otherworldly energy, turning a familiar training session into a small-scale aquatic fantasia.
Factoids & Trivia
- The swimmers were supplied by Aquabatix, a professional synchronized swimming troupe. The video's central idea was that the team would begin by training in a pool before magically transforming into performers in elaborate swimwear and caps.
- The production used underwater cinematography as well as conventional poolside shooting. The full credits also list choreography, a Phantom camera operator, crane operation, and visual effects, reflecting the video's carefully staged, performance-focused approach.
- Sound design was created by Ithaca Audio. Because the pool environment produced excessive reverberation and equipment noise, the team combined selected location ambience with newly created effects and controlled library recordings to build the sounds of the swimmers moving through the water.
- The project was completed during a one-day pool shoot. The same Aquabatix performers later recreated the routine live alongside Bombay Bicycle Club at Shoreditch House in London, effectively turning the video's aquatic performance into a stage show.
- "Luna" was released as a single from the 2014 album "So Long, See You Tomorrow" and features guest vocals from Rae Morris. Jack Steadman said the song began with a sample and went through several major transformations before reaching its finished form.
