Teenagers In Tokyo - Peter Pan

Music Video | UK | 2011

Wiki

Synopsis

Teenagersintokyo perform "Peter Pan" in a stark rural setting, but this is far from a conventional band clip. The performance is interrupted by images of death, occult ritual, voodoo and fake blood, creating an atmosphere of mounting unease. The video contrasts the band's polished electro-pop presentation with grotesque, threatening imagery, turning the song's youthful title into something darker and more ominous. Its deliberately unsettling tone gives the performance an almost nightmare-like quality.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released online in late December 2009, ahead of the single's 2010 campaign.
  • The shoot took place at Dummer Down Farm, giving the clip its isolated, open-air backdrop rather than a conventional studio or club setting.
  • Brian Fawcett handled cinematography, James Wright edited the video, and Aubrey Woodiwiss completed the color work at The Mill.
  • The production credits list Camilla Raven for styling, with Joanne Powell assisting. The band's sharply coordinated appearance helps set up the contrast between polished electro-pop and the video's grisly imagery.
  • Contemporary coverage singled out the clip's combination of performance footage, death, voodoo, fake blood and a general sense of dread.
  • "Peter Pan" appeared on Teenagersintokyo's debut album, "Sacrifice," released by Back Yard Recordings in 2010.
  • The Horrors later remixed the track. That version helped raise the song's profile and was reported to have topped the Hype Machine chart.
  • Teenagersintokyo originated in Sydney, Australia, but were based in London during the release of "Peter Pan."
