Synopsis

An elderly woman revisits the defining moments of her life with her late husband, from their first meeting and playful funhouse date to the hardships of marriage, parenthood, and old age. As memories and reality begin to overlap, the couple appears to remain connected beyond death. Justin Timberlake enters the story only after the central narrative has unfolded, performing in a hall of mirrors that turns the song's idea of two people reflecting one another into a series of surreal images, mirrored movements, and shifting identities.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video runs for roughly eight and a half minutes, making it closer to a short film than a conventional pop promo. Timberlake does not appear until approximately five and a half minutes into the clip.
  • Timberlake dedicated the video to his maternal grandparents, William and Sadie Bomar, who were married for 63 years before William died in 2012.
  • The young couple is played by Ariane Rinehart and Keenan Cochrane, while later stages of the relationship use different actors to represent the passage of time.
  • The choreography was created by Noemie Lafrance. The production uses the dancers and mirrored sets to extend the song's central image into visual doubling and carefully matched movement.
  • The video premiered on March 19, 2013, as part of a one-hour special on The CW celebrating the release of *The 20/20 Experience*.
  • "Mirrors" won Video of the Year and Best Editing at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

If you ever feel alone and the glare makes me hard to find
Just know that I'm always parallell on the other side

Cause with your hand in my hand and a pocket full of soul
I can tell you there's no place we couldn't go
Just put your hand on the past, I'm here tryin' to pull you through
You just gotta be strong

Cause I don't wanna lose you now
I'm lookin' right at the other half of me
The vacancy that sat in my heart
Is a space that now you hold
