Synopsis
Set against a wide, windswept landscape, "Chick Lit" presents We Are Scientists as deadpan cowboys managing an unusually unruly herd of Pomeranians. Dressed for an Old West adventure, the band members move between mock-heroic riding scenes, dog-herding duties, and performance footage. The tiny dogs and imposing horses create an intentionally absurd contrast, turning the video into a playful parody of classic Western imagery rather than a literal interpretation of the song's lyrics.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video was filmed in the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland, in a national park outside Dublin. The location was selected because it could pass for the Old West, with Ireland chosen largely for convenience while the band was touring Europe.
- The shoot was completed in roughly 12 hours during a trip that lasted about 48 hours. The band flew in from Frankfurt and traveled onward by train to the lowlands of Holland.
- Chris Cain described the concept as a kind of "City Slickers" scenario, with the band herding Pomeranians instead of cattle. The production also used horses, which reportedly ended up standing in boggy ground up to their knees.
- The visual approach deliberately played with cowboy-movie associations. The crew had a "Brokeback Mountain" idea in mind, but Cain joked that the band's costumes made them look more like Woody from "Toy Story."
- Keith Murray said his girlfriend liked Pomeranians, while he did not, adding another layer of personal amusement to the choice of animals.
- "Chick Lit" was the second single from the 2008 album "Brain Thrust Mastery." It reached No. 37 on the UK singles chart.
