Synopsis

Simple Plan perform in a stark studio set while a parallel story follows a man waiting anxiously for his girlfriend. As he tries to reach her by phone, the video reveals that she is secretly seeing another man. The band's performance scenes grow increasingly bleak, with the surrounding flowers and blossoms gradually losing their vitality. By combining direct relationship drama with the band's increasingly dark surroundings, the video mirrors the song's progression from suspicion and denial to the realization that the relationship has collapsed.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed in Los Angeles on March 5, 2008, and premiered on April 8, 2008.

• The flowers surrounding the band gradually become darker and appear to die as the video continues. This visual change represents the relationship disintegrating.

• "Your Love Is a Lie" was the second single from Simple Plan's self-titled third studio album, released in 2008.

• The song was inspired by drummer Chuck Comeau's experience with an unfaithful former girlfriend, giving the video's cheating storyline a personal connection to the band's songwriting.

• The production marked a change from the band's earlier videos, which had frequently involved their friend Frank Borin. Borin still appeared on the set, reportedly joking that he was there "to sabotage it."
