Synopsis

Amy Lee takes the role of a modern, rock-and-roll Little Red Riding Hood, confronting a seductive Big Bad Wolf played by Oliver Goodwill. Surrounded by live wolves, gothic interiors, dancers, and supernatural imagery, she moves through the fantasy world with confidence rather than fear. The band performs as Lee rejects the wolf's advances and ultimately takes control of the encounter. The fairy-tale setting turns the song's breakup message into a stylized story about resisting manipulation and walking away from a troubled relationship.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed in Hollywood, Los Angeles, in July 2006, with a reported budget of $400,000.
  • Amy Lee described the concept as a modern reimagining of "Little Red Riding Hood," with a more heroic, rock-and-roll version of the central character.
  • The Big Bad Wolf is played by British actor Oliver Goodwill.
  • Several real wolves appeared in the production, accompanied by four trainers. Lee reportedly developed an allergic reaction while working with the animals but continued filming.
  • The supernatural choreography, including Lee's descent down a staircase with female dancers, was developed during the shoot after a staging idea was presented to her.
  • The video premiered on MTV on August 7, 2006, shortly before the release of Evanescence's second album, "The Open Door."
  • It became a strong performer on MTV's "Total Request Live," appearing on the countdown 35 times and reaching number one nine times.
  • VH1 later placed the clip at number 10 on its list of the Top 40 Videos of 2006.
  • The video's fairy-tale imagery deliberately avoids illustrating the lyrics literally. Instead, the wolf functions as a visual embodiment of the destructive lover at the center of the song.
  • A Japanese limited edition of "The Open Door" included the music video and behind-the-scenes footage.
