Synopsis
An animated star introduces a dreamlike world where a woman travels across the water on a small ship. She arrives at a surreal heart-shaped structure and examines a mysterious device before the story shifts to a sleeping man. As he wakes, the two characters spend time together in an intimate, otherworldly setting. Images of stars, drifting landscapes, and unusual architecture unfold alongside the band's performance, creating a visual counterpart to the song's themes of nocturnal intimacy, emotional release, and two people shutting out the rest of the world.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video began as a short film rather than as a conventional music video. Vardi used "Sleep Tonight" as the soundtrack because he did not have sound equipment of his own.
- Vardi made the project at age 18, after leaving a film course at Tel Aviv University. He transformed his run-down apartment into a makeshift studio.
- The production was completed with limited resources. Vardi did not yet own a computer and used his girlfriend's machine while she was at work to edit the film and learn the necessary software.
- The clip was Vardi's first video project. Its combination of live-action performance and surreal animated imagery became an early example of the playful visual style associated with his later work.
