Factoids & Trivia

• Shakira developed the video's concept around the Carnival of Barranquilla, her hometown celebration. Costumes and characters associated with the carnival, including the Marimonda and Congo figures, appear throughout the production.

• In a later breakdown for Allure, Shakira said she had very little time to rehearse and relied heavily on improvisation. She also noted that a close friend appears in the carnival scenes despite not being a professional dancer.
