Synopsis

Biffy Clyro are presented as unruly patients inside a strange psychiatric institution, where normal behavior quickly gives way to surreal performance. Simon Neil plays with a chessboard while the band members appear to occupy separate corners of the facility, surrounded by stark rooms, unusual props, and manic physicality. The video repeatedly blurs the line between treatment and entertainment, turning the institution into an improvised stage. Its deliberately eccentric imagery matches the song's collision of electronic pulses, jagged riffs, and explosive rock dynamics.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video treats the band as psychiatric patients, giving the clip an unsettling institutional setting rather than using a conventional performance space.
  • Several everyday objects become part of the visual joke. Simon appears to play the guitar riff on a sweeping brush, while cardboard boxes are used to create percussion.
  • A chess game provides one of the clip's recurring images, adding a sense of strategy and confrontation to an otherwise chaotic setting.
  • "Glitter and Trauma" was released as a single on August 9, 2004, through Beggars Banquet. The accompanying DVD single included the video, a Peel Session cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way," and an untitled movie.
  • The single reached No. 21 on the UK Singles Chart and became Biffy Clyro's second top-ten hit in Scotland.
  • The song opens the band's third album, "Infinity Land," and its unexpected electronic introduction was designed to make listeners briefly wonder whether they had put on the wrong record. The video's similarly disorienting tone reinforces that deliberate misdirection.

Lyrics

Diamonds, glitter and trauma tears, with an unfriendly atmosphere.
We'll make our night, we'll make tonight.

Your potential is underused, your skin will break into jigsaw shaped pieces of meat, you'll fall
apart.

You can save them all.
I believe that you can.
Even though... you never listen.
You never listen.

But you are, the human, strobe.
You are the human strobe.
