Synopsis

Schneider TM moves through the stark concrete surroundings of Ruhr University Bochum, carrying a remote control that seems to alter the buildings around him. Static architecture becomes strangely animated as walls, windows, and geometric surfaces respond with unexpected energy. The contrast between the impersonal campus setting and the playful transformation mirrors the song's unease about control, technology, and modern life. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the video turns an everyday urban environment into a surreal electronic playground.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed at Ruhr University Bochum, whose severe concrete architecture provides most of its visual identity.

• Its central visual device is a remote control that appears to give Schneider TM power over the surrounding buildings, turning rigid institutional spaces into responsive, almost living forms.

• The clip was made for the title track from "Zoomer," Schneider TM's 2002 album. "Reality Check" was also issued as a single with remixes by The Calculators and Mogwai with David Jack.

• The song was described in contemporary coverage as an electronic protest song, with lyrics addressing alienation, media control, consumerism, and technology. The video translates that tension into a battle between human intervention and monumental architecture.

• Special effects were credited to the German visual-effects team Industriesauger.

• "Reality Check" received the audience award in the clip category at the 2003 backup Festival in Weimar.

• The song's hybrid of melodic songwriting, distorted electronics, and robotic vocal processing helped establish Schneider TM's place in the early-2000s indietronica scene.
