Synopsis

A bloodied young woman wakes beside her injured lover and sets out to confront the men responsible. After eating a mysterious substance, her forearm swells to cartoonish proportions, giving her the strength to fight back. The ensuing confrontation turns into a frantic, grotesque action sequence involving a golf-related criminal, improvised weapons, and generous amounts of fake blood. High Places member Mary Pearson plays the heroine, whose transformation gives the video its strange blend of pulp violence, dark comedy, and cartoon fantasy.

Factoids & Trivia

• The concept was loosely based on the original Popeye cartoons, with the heroine's enlarged forearm serving as a deliberately twisted version of Popeye's spinach-fueled strength.

• The video was made for "Sonora," a track from High Places' 2011 album "Original Colors," released by Thrill Jockey Records.

• Mary Pearson plays the central character. A cameo by Angus Andrew of Liars also appears in the video.

• The criminal pursued by the heroine is portrayed as being connected to the golf industry, an intentionally absurd detail that heightens the video's comic-book tone.

• An early treatment reportedly included a cameo by basketball player Blake Griffin, but he does not appear in the finished version.
