Synopsis

The video presents a surreal journey through a dark, shifting landscape assembled from paper sculptures, pop-up forms, soil, projected imagery and shadow. Geometric structures appear to grow, collapse and reform as flashes of light and abstract patterns respond to the music. Natural imagery and computer-generated visuals alternate between recognizable environments and distorted, dreamlike forms. The result suggests a cycle of creation, destruction and rebirth, turning an improvised physical installation into an unstable world that seems to breathe and mutate.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was created for Amon Tobin's "Piece of Paper," from his 2011 album "ISAM," and won the Amon Tobin Video Contest.

• Its set was built from triangle-cut paper sculptures, pop-up sculptures and approximately 40 kilograms of soil in Fabrica's photo studio.

• Only two video projectors provided the light. Software programmed in vvvv analyzed the track in real time and generated visuals that reacted to the music.

• Some imagery was projection-mapped onto the sculptures, while other two-dimensional images were projected without modification. The contrast between precise mapping and distorted projections was central to the video's surreal appearance.

• The visual material combined algorithmically generated imagery with nature footage filmed in Italy and Croatia.

• The production was filmed with a Canon 5D Mark II and was later included in Amon Tobin's official box set.

• The film received the Audience Award at the 13th Circuito Off Film Festival in Venice in 2012 and was also selected for the 2012 DOTMOV Festival.
