Synopsis

Travis perform in a dark, freezing space as animated figures emerge from the mist of their breath. A tiny character runs, flies, swims and moves through a shifting world, while the projections occasionally transform into reflections of Fran Healy. The simple visual narrative gives physical form to the song's themes of motion, distance and change. Rather than relying on digital effects, the video captures the animation directly in the air, making every movement appear fleeting, weightless and almost magically connected to the band's breathing.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released on July 1, 2013, as the second single from Travis' album "Where You Stand."
  • Its central technique was developed from Wriggles & Robins' earlier short film "Love Is in the Air," released on Valentine's Day in 2013.
  • The animations were projected into the band's visible breath and filmed live in the camera. No post-production visual effects were used.
  • The shoot took place in an artificially chilled studio at approximately -1 degrees C, cold enough for the breath to remain visible.
  • The animation was prepared over several weeks. The creative team tested hundreds of variations, adjusting the drawings to improve their clarity when seen inside the breath.
  • Multiple projectors were used during the shoot, while hot tea helped the band and crew cope with the subzero conditions.
  • The video received an Excellence Award in the Entertainment Division at the 17th Japan Media Arts Festival.
  • A making-of video was released on July 8, 2013, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the projection process.
