Synopsis

An anonymous young woman drifts through a series of ordinary, emotionally detached moments. She lies on a bed, poses in a garage and appears largely indifferent to the spaces around her, while the video's muted imagery and slow pacing create a dreamlike sense of isolation. The seemingly repetitive routine continues without explanation until the closing seconds, when her eyes suddenly flare with an intense yellow light. The striking transformation turns the otherwise subdued portrait into an unsettling image of awakening or inner revelation.

• The video was premiered by Drowned in Sound on May 23, 2012, shortly after the release of Exitmusic's album "Passage."

• "The Night" was also issued as a one-track single through Secretly Canadian in 2012.

• Unlike several later Exitmusic videos, the clip does not center on a conventional performance by Aleksa Palladino and Devon Church. Instead, it follows an unnamed female figure who functions as a visual stand-in for the song's atmosphere.

• The video's final image - the woman's eyes suddenly glowing yellow - gives the preceding scenes a supernatural edge without explaining exactly what has happened.
