Synopsis
A surreal procession unfolds around a group of people whose identities are obscured by elaborate masks and stylized makeup. The characters move through a dreamlike world of strange poses, uneasy encounters, and fragmented images, while the camera shifts between intimate close-ups and wider tableaux. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the video builds an atmosphere of mystery and emotional disconnection, reflecting the song's recurring imagery of nighttime, memory, absence, and a face that keeps returning.
Factoids & Trivia
- "Babar" was the title track of Part Company's debut EP, released in 2011. The French duo consisted of Damien Savignat and Yoel Slama.
- The production was made for Green United Music by Iconoclast, with The Lift handling production services.
- The visual design involved a dedicated mask sculptor, Max Dalmau, as well as an art director, makeup artist, wardrobe team, and digital performer. The unusually detailed credits point to a production built around practical character transformation rather than a straightforward band performance.
- The video was shot by cinematographer Guto Moura and featured a large ensemble cast, including Alex Agusti Moreno, Anna Alamo Bergstrom, Julia Betran Fatjo, and Stefania Borras Johnson.
- Part Company's music was later used in advertising: "Babar" appeared in Yves Saint Laurent's 2014 L'Homme Sport campaign, accompanying black-and-white motorcycle footage.
- The track was subsequently included on Part Company's 2017 album "Seasons", helping keep the early song in circulation beyond the original EP.
