Synopsis

Set against a wide panoramic view of the New York skyline, "Lonely" turns absence into a visual presence. Figures in brightly colored suits move through the frame, but chroma-key effects remove their bodies, leaving behind the impression of people who are there and not there at the same time. The camera glides across the cityscape as these disembodied forms appear, vanish and drift through the scene. The result is a dreamlike portrait of isolation that favors mood and visual metaphor over a literal narrative.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was released in November 2012 as part of the promotional campaign for The Peach Kings' *Handsome Moves* EP.

• The central image was created by filming performers in blue and green suits and removing the suit colors through chroma-key compositing. The technique makes the figures seem hollow or absent, matching the song's theme.

• The panoramic city view was shot on a Canon 7D with a Rokinon 14mm lens and the Technicolor CineStyle profile.

• The post-production used Keylight in After Effects for the chroma work and Knoll Light Factory for lens flares. Optical compensation was applied to manage the wide-angle lens distortion.

• The camera movement was built in After Effects by carefully adjusting and animating the motion in the graph editor, rather than relying on a simple continuous camera move.

• The finished video was designed to look deceptively straightforward, although the visual effects work was intensive. An estimated 25-hour render was reduced to roughly four hours on a Hackintosh used for the final project.

• A separate making-of video was released to show the visual-effects breakdown and explain how the empty-body effect was constructed.
