Synopsis

Efterklang's "Black Summer" follows a series of displaced animals through stark, unsettling situations that evoke confinement, neglect, and the criminal justice system. Rather than presenting human offenders directly, the video uses the animals as stand-ins for people pushed into the penal system by poverty, abuse, and social abandonment. Its observational camera and restrained performances create an uneasy, documentary-like atmosphere, while the imagery gradually turns the animals' vulnerability into a pointed reflection on how society labels and dehumanizes outsiders.
