Synopsis

Booka Shade's "Crossing Borders" turns California's varied terrain into a surreal aerial journey. Snow-covered mountains, dry desert, rugged land and ocean beaches are viewed from above, then warped into spherical, miniature worlds that resemble floating islands or tiny planets. The continuous panoramic perspective gives the landscape a dreamlike quality, while Fritz Kalkbrenner's vocals and the track's smooth electronic pulse create an expansive, weightless mood. Rather than follow characters or a narrative, the video explores movement, scale and the visual idea of crossing from one environment into another.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was shot in California and uses aerial footage to connect several sharply contrasting landscapes, including mountains, desert and coastline.

• Its distinctive "tiny planet" appearance comes from presenting panoramic aerial images as spherical worlds. The effect makes each landscape look self-contained, while the transitions suggest that the viewer is moving between separate environments.

• The production used a 360-degree panoramic camera system built around multiple GoPro cameras. The rig was supplied by 360Heros and carried eight cameras.

• Aerial filming was handled with a hexacopter drone. The combination of the drone and panoramic rig allowed the camera to capture a full view around itself rather than a conventional forward-facing shot.

• An interactive 360-degree version was also made, allowing viewers to look around the image rather than simply watch a fixed edit.
