Synopsis

Errors are pulled into a surreal digital landscape where office culture, corporate ambition and computer iconography collide. The band members appear inside a collage of low-resolution graphics, Safari symbols, cursor hands, clocks, Wi-Fi signals and other familiar desktop imagery. Suited figures navigate a world of money ladders, globes and business deals, turning the video into a strange tale of progress, rivalry and betrayal. Its deliberately artificial look makes the musicians seem like characters trapped inside an unstable screen saver or an outdated corporate presentation.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Pleasure Palaces" was released as the first single from Errors' third album, "Have Some Faith In Magic," which came out through Mogwai's Rock Action Records in January 2012.
  • The video premiered online on January 18, 2012, through NPR's music coverage.
  • The band had previously been associated mainly with instrumental music. The track marked a more overt move toward vocals, with echoing chants woven into its electronic arrangements.
  • Errors members Simon Ward, Greg Paterson, Stephen Livingstone and James Hamilton were integrated into the imagery using green-screen footage.
  • The visual concept grew from two sources: an interest in 1980s corporate stock graphics and extensive use of Mac computers.
  • The imagery deliberately mixes older Microsoft and Macintosh desktop references, including cursor hands, spinning clocks and wireless-network symbols.
  • The video's business-world imagery includes globes for heads and businessmen climbing ladders made from money, giving its corporate setting a deliberately comic and surreal quality.
  • Contemporary coverage described the finished piece as largely computer animated, vibrant and bizarre, while also emphasizing its low-definition textures and office clip-art aesthetic.
