Synopsis
A mirrored pyramid drifts through space before opening above a devastated Earth. The psychic girl from "Midnight City" and "Reunion" now moves through a barren, post-apocalyptic landscape accompanied by white wolves, vultures, and other signs of a transformed world. As she senses something approaching, one of the escaped children is released from the floating structure and falls through the atmosphere. He lands near her in the wilderness, leaving their reunion and the future of this strange new world unresolved.
Factoids & Trivia
- Released on December 5, 2012, "Wait" completes the serialized visual story begun by "Midnight City" and continued in "Reunion."
- The three videos were created as a connected science-fiction narrative about children with extraordinary abilities escaping from captivity and encountering a radically altered world.
- The video was made in conjunction with The Creators Project, a collaboration between Intel and Vice that supported experimental music and art projects.
- Its imagery moves between post-apocalyptic landscapes and cosmic travel, giving the slow, reflective song a much larger cinematic scale than a conventional performance video.
- The floating geometric spacecraft and its journey through space have been compared to the surreal cosmic imagery of Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey."
- The video's wolves connect its visual world with Anthony Gonzalez's stated fascination with the Mojave Desert, where much of "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" was recorded.
