Synopsis
Two rival teams from a brightly colored 1980s aerobics television show compete for ratings in an escalating battle of fitness, choreography, and martial arts. What begins as a glossy exercise routine turns into a stylized fight to the death, with spandex-clad contestants using acrobatics and improvised violence to eliminate the opposition. Miniature sets, saturated colors, exaggerated performances, and comic-book energy transform KOAN Sound's electronic track into a surreal parody of vintage workout programming.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video was commissioned by OWSLA and produced on a reported budget of $5,000.
- Its visual concept grew from a request for rotoscoped footage of 1980s fitness performers. Because high-quality rotoscoping would have been impractical within the schedule and budget, the production used live-action performers, green-screen work, and handmade miniature environments instead.
- Around 170 green-screen effects shots were completed during post-production, which took approximately three weeks.
- The miniature sets were designed and constructed specifically for the video, giving the backgrounds a tactile, handcrafted appearance rather than a purely digital one.
- The stunt and dance work combined martial arts, parkour, and aerobics-inspired movement. The choreography was developed with input from Kimo Keoke, whose background included both martial arts and jazzercise.
- The video received third-place recognition in the Alternative category at the 2013 College Television Awards and also won awards at the Los Angeles Music Video Festival, FirstGlance Film Festival, and NFFTY.
- The song appears on KOAN Sound's 2012 EP "The Adventures of Mr. Fox," released through OWSLA.
