Synopsis

A young woman spends time alone in a warmly lit apartment, lounging among carefully arranged clothes, jewelry and domestic details. The video's calm, intimate images gradually acquire a more restless edge as her private world gives way to acts of destruction. She takes to the streets and begins throwing stones through windows, turning the song's delicate electronic textures into a visual study in tension, release and damage. The contrast between her composed presence and the escalating violence gives "Broken Glass" its unsettling, dreamlike charge.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was released in 2012 as the lead visual for "Broken Glass," the title track from Tomas Barfod's Broken Glass EP and a song later included on the album Salton Sea.

• The track features Jeppe Kjellberg, Barfod's bandmate in WhoMadeWho. The song's unusual vocal sound was created from Kjellberg singing a single note; Barfod then programmed the melody with Auto-Tune.

• The lyrics came from an email sent to Barfod by his wife, Maria. Barfod described the lyrics as random but fitting the song.

• The production credits list Mattias Troelstrup as director of photography, Flossy Cleveland as producer, Frederik Ahlevig as editor and Bungalow 8 as the production company.

• The sound of breaking glass in the track is not just suggested by the title. Barfod used an actual glass-breaking sample, creating a direct link between the music and the video's destructive imagery.

• Barfod's own breakdown of the song also identifies guitar recorded by Jeppe Kjellberg, a distorted Roland TR-505 drum-machine part, real drums played by Barfod and horn sounds made with a Logic sample rather than a live horn section.
