Fucked Up - Queen Of Hearts

Synopsis

Set against a smoky rural landscape, the video places a children's choir in a one-room schoolhouse as a teacher prepares them to perform "Queen Of Hearts." The boys deliver the song's aggressive vocal passages, while the girls answer with the softer refrain, creating an unsettling contrast between innocent surroundings and the song's punk intensity. As the performance reaches its conclusion, the camera pulls back to reveal the filming setup itself, while a distant fire continues to burn and leaves the supposed wartime scene deliberately ambiguous.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released in June 2011 as the first music video from Fucked Up's concept album "David Comes to Life."
  • It was filmed in rural Ontario and uses the setting of a traditional schoolhouse to contrast the children's innocence with the song's heavy, confrontational sound.
  • The choir's vocals were arranged around the original duet: the boys perform the parts associated with Fucked Up vocalist Damian Abraham, while the girls represent guest singer Madeline Follin of Cults.
  • The video does not prominently feature the band. Instead, it functions as a self-contained short film built around the album's themes of love, conflict, performance and war.
  • Its final pullback reveals the camera crew and production environment, turning the apparent story into a staged performance and emphasizing the album's interest in constructed narratives.
  • Samantha Wright appears as the teacher leading the children through the performance.
  • The production credits include musical direction by Nobu Adilman, with sound recording and mixing by Ian McGettigan.
