Synopsis
Toro y Moi frontman Chaz Bundick performs "Still Sound" in a loose, playful portrait of movement and place. Filmed around Columbia, South Carolina, the video follows him singing, dancing, joking around, and spending time with friends in streets, parks, and other everyday surroundings. The casual footage also includes Bundick eating bread and mugging for the camera. Its warm, faded Super 8 look gives the clip the feel of a personal home movie rather than a polished studio production.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video was shot on Super 8 film in Columbia, South Carolina, in December 2010, shortly before the release of *Underneath the Pine*.
- The production was deliberately small-scale: Steve Daniels described the shoot as involving himself, Chaz Bundick, a Super 8 camera, and a box of Kodak film.
- The footage was shot on Kodak Ektachrome 100D, a daylight-balanced color film stock that contributes to the video's saturated, vintage appearance.
- Daniels also handled the editing, maintaining the spontaneous, homemade character of the material.
- The clip appeared in January 2011 as the first video for "Still Sound," the lead single from *Underneath the Pine*, which was released by Carpark Records in February 2011.
- The video's relaxed, analog presentation matched the musical shift associated with *Underneath the Pine*, which moved Toro y Moi toward funk, disco, and live-instrumentation influences after the more sample-driven sound of *Causers of This*.
