Celine Dion (born Celine Marie Claudette Dion on March 30, 1968, in Charlemagne, Quebec) is a Canadian singer known for her powerful voice, dramatic delivery, and international success in both French- and English-language pop. Over a career spanning more than four decades, she became one of the best-selling recording artists in popular music and one of the most prominent French-speaking performers to achieve sustained success in the English-speaking market.

Dion grew up in a large musical family and began performing publicly as a child. At the age of 12, she recorded a demonstration tape that reached music manager Rene Angelil. He became her manager and played a central role in developing her early career. Dion emerged as a teenage star in Quebec during the 1980s, releasing a series of French-language albums and establishing herself through her highly controlled singing and emotionally direct performances.

Her international breakthrough came in 1988, when she represented Switzerland and won the Eurovision Song Contest with "Ne partez pas sans moi." She subsequently worked to expand her career beyond the francophone market, including intensive English-language training. Her first English album, Unison, appeared in 1990 and introduced her to a wider North American audience through the single "Where Does My Heart Beat Now."

Dion's mainstream breakthrough accelerated with "Beauty and the Beast," her 1991 duet with Peabo Bryson for the Disney animated film. The song earned her a Grammy Award and an Academy Award, while her album Celine Dion consolidated her position in the United States. Her 1993 album The Colour of My Love produced major hits including "The Power of Love" and "Think Twice," helping establish her as one of the defining adult-pop vocalists of the 1990s.

She continued to record in French, most notably on D'eux (1995), written largely with songwriter Jean-Jacques Goldman. The album became a landmark of French-language popular music. In English, Falling into You (1996) won the Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Pop Album. The following year's Let's Talk About Love included "My Heart Will Go On," the theme from Titanic. The song became Dion's signature recording and one of the most recognizable film songs of its era.

After a career break around the turn of the millennium, Dion returned with A New Day Has Come in 2002. In 2003, she began the A New Day... residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Its success helped change the economics and artistic profile of the modern Las Vegas residency. She later returned to the city with the Celine residency, performing more than 1,000 shows across the two engagements.

Dion's later albums included Taking Chances (2007), Loved Me Back to Life (2013), and Courage (2019). Her acting and screen appearances have included a role in Love Again (2023), while the documentary I Am: Celine Dion (2024) presented her struggle with stiff-person syndrome and its effect on her ability to perform. She also made a high-profile return to live performance at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
