Synopsis

Phil Fuldner's "The Final" music video is built almost entirely from animated footage from the Japanese-German science-fiction series "Captain Future." The montage follows Captain Future and his crew through space, combining images of the Comet spacecraft, futuristic environments, alien worlds, battles, and the show's heroic characters. Edited to match the track's driving house rhythm, the clip functions less as a standalone narrative than as a fast-moving visual tribute to the series and its distinctive retro-futurist atmosphere.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "The Final" is a house reworking of "Feinde greifen an," a track from Christian Bruhn's German "Captain Future" soundtrack, rather than a remix of the series' best-known opening theme.
  • The idea for updating the "Captain Future" material came from Dan Dinsing, who had discovered the soundtrack on CD. Phil Fuldner and Moguai later developed the track in their early studio setup.
  • Fuldner has recalled that the production was created in late March 1997 after the team abandoned work on another project. They chose "Feinde greifen an" because its structure suited a filter-house arrangement.
  • The track was initially tested at a gig at Düsseldorf's Poison club, where the dance floor reportedly emptied soon after it was played. Its later commercial success was therefore an unexpectedly strong turnaround.
  • Released in 1998, "The Final" reached No. 7 in Germany, No. 10 in Austria, and No. 16 in Switzerland. A later UK release peaked at No. 82 in 1999.
  • The video helped connect a contemporary late-1990s club production with the cult status of "Captain Future," whose German television soundtrack had already become a favorite among electronic-music listeners.
