Synopsis

Beck's "Sexx Laws" video begins with the Vision Warrior Men's Circle, a group of emotionally open, oddly dressed men engaged in earnest bonding exercises. Their secluded gathering is interrupted by football players, sending the film into a surreal parade of pop-culture fragments and bizarre encounters. A haunted kitchen, animated-looking robots, a banjo-playing zebra mannequin, a Kenny G parody and a space-pirate storyline collide in a deliberately incoherent fever dream. The video closes with Jack Black addressing the assembled freak troops in the style of an absurd motivational rally.

Factoids & Trivia

• Jack Black appears as a member of the Vision Warrior Men's Circle. Neil Strauss and Beck bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen also take part in the opening sequence.

• The video draws on the surreal superhero satire *Mr. Freedom*, as well as imagery associated with *Anna* and the Japanese film *Ganbare!! Robocon*.

• Several cuts circulated. An original version once hosted on Beck's website ran for more than 18 minutes and expanded the Men's Circle introduction. Later edits removed parts of the opening and ending, with one version shortening Jack Black's closing speech.

• Meldal-Johnsen appears in a Kenny G-inspired cameo before the video shifts into its football-player setting.

• Among the video's most frequently remembered images are a refrigerator and oven engaged in a bizarre physical encounter, and a rotating zebra mannequin holding a banjo.

• The song was released as the lead single from *Midnite Vultures* in October 1999, placing the video within the album's deliberately exaggerated blend of funk, soul and absurdist humor.
