Synopsis
Sublime's "STP" video is a raw, homemade portrait of the band and its surroundings. Performance footage, casual scenes inside the band's Long Beach hangout, and material from a recording session are cut together in a deliberately loose, chaotic style. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the clip captures the group's DIY environment and offbeat personality, making the video feel more like an intimate document of Sublime's world than a polished promotional production.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video was filmed at Sublime's so-called Secret Tweaker Pad, a house closely associated with the band's early-1990s creative period.
- Some of the footage comes from the recording sessions for *Robbin' the Hood* at Westbeach Recorders in Hollywood in June 1993.
- The video circulated through Skunk Records promotional VHS releases. One surviving master is dated April 7, 1995, while a later promotional tape containing both "STP" and "Date Rape" was sent to industry recipients in May 1995.
- The image used for the cover of *Robbin' the Hood* was taken from a scene at the end of the video and features Sublime-associated artist Opie Ortiz.
- The clip is one of the clearest surviving examples of Sublime's early, informal visual style, years before the more elaborate videos made for the band's self-titled major-label album.
