Synopsis

Chris Cornell is strapped into a metal chair inside a sinister laboratory, where electrodes are attached to his head and scientists observe the experiment. Forced to watch a strange, propaganda-like film, he appears trapped in a surreal cycle of fear and control. Meanwhile, Soundgarden perform in a stark room as the tension builds. The imagery shifts between Cornell's apparent torture, the disturbing film projection, and the band's increasingly forceful performance, culminating in the destruction of the room.

• The video was filmed at Occidental Studios in Los Angeles in October 1996.

• Cornell's restrained pose recalls Alex DeLarge in Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film "A Clockwork Orange," while the film he is forced to watch parodies the montage sequence from "The Parallax View" (1974).

• Behind-the-scenes coverage described Cornell being held in heavy restraints for much of the shoot. At one point, he joked about needing someone nearby to scratch his nose.

• To make the electrocution scenes appear convincing, Cornell was asked to twitch on cue while immobilized in the chair.
