Synopsis

Skunk Anansie perform in a bizarre small town populated by people locked into distorted, unnervingly cheerful smiles. As the band plays, Skin appears as a sinister comet hurtling toward Earth. The townspeople carry on amid the surreal spectacle, seemingly unable to react to the approaching disaster. The video builds from grotesque humor and staged performance toward an apocalyptic climax, ending with the comet striking the neighborhood and wiping out its inhabitants.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was created as a homage to Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun," sharing its exaggerated smiles, suburban unease, and surreal end-of-the-world imagery.

• "Lately" was released in July 1999 as the third single from Skunk Anansie's album "Post Orgasmic Chill."

• The single's enhanced CD included an interactive multimedia section containing the promotional video in QuickTime format.

• The video is available in both edited and uncut forms. The uncut version runs for approximately 4 minutes and 6 seconds.

• "Lately" reached No. 33 on the UK singles chart and became a particularly successful release for the band in Iceland, where it peaked at No. 2.
