Synopsis

Silverchair perform inside a sealed, oven-like chamber while scientists monitor the rising temperature and harvest the band's sweat. The collected liquid is delivered to an elderly woman as an experimental rejuvenation treatment, first restoring her appearance and then transforming her into a strange, otherworldly figure. Once the experiment ends, the band members cool down, clock out, and leave the facility. The video turns the song's title into a surreal laboratory satire, mixing deadpan workplace imagery with body-horror humor and deliberately exaggerated science-fiction visuals.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed in Los Angeles on December 5 and 6, 1996, during the period when Silverchair were completing work connected with their second album, Freak Show.

• The apparent heat was created with orange lighting rather than an actual oven environment. The band members were repeatedly sprayed with water to produce the look of heavy perspiration.

• The scenes involving the elderly woman and her transformation were filmed separately in another studio.

• The production's sweat-collection process was particularly hands-on: the scientist character used a cotton swab and tweezers to gather the liquid from the musicians.

• Daniel Johns later explained that the unusual guitar he used in the video was selected at the request of the production, with its futuristic appearance intended to suggest the year 2020.
