Synopsis

Marie Fredriksson moves through a lonely, emotionally fractured landscape, shifting between hotel rooms, city streets and the beaches of Portugal. Her isolation is contrasted with brief images of Per Gessle, who appears to pass through the same world without reaching her. As the song builds, Marie's grief becomes increasingly overwhelming. The video closes with her walking into the ocean, turning the ballad's heartbreak into a stark and unsettling portrait of despair.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed in Portugal over three days, April 13-15, 1999, using locations in the Troia Peninsula and Lisbon.
  • Hotel and beach scenes were shot around Troia, while some of the urban footage was filmed in Lisbon.
  • The closing suicide attempt caused the video to be banned by MTV Europe and several other European television stations.
  • An edited version was shown in medium rotation on MTV en Espanol in the United States.
  • The controversy affected the single's visibility in Europe. "Anyone" became a modest chart performer, and EMI ultimately canceled its planned UK commercial release despite promotional copies and radio interest.
  • A Spanish-language version, "Alguien," was later recorded and received stronger airplay in parts of Latin America.
  • The video was included as an enhanced video on European maxi-single editions of "Anyone," alongside tracks from the *Have a Nice Day* era.

Lyrics

Anyone who have a love close to this
Knows what I'm saying
Anyone who wants a dream to come true
Knows how I'm feeling

All I can think of is you and me
Doing the things I wanna do
All I imagine is heaven on earth
I know it's you

Anyone who ever kissed in the rain
Knows the whole meaning
Anyone who ever stood in the light
Needs no explaining
