Synopsis

Queen perform "Body Language" in a dim, humid setting resembling a steam room, surrounded by dancers whose tightly framed movements emphasize skin, sweat, and physical contact. Freddie Mercury sings from within the charged atmosphere while the band appears fully clothed, creating a deliberate contrast with the dancers' provocative choreography. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the video works as a sensual visual extension of the song's lyrics and bass-driven funk groove, using close-ups, shadows, and restless motion to build an openly erotic mood.

Factoids & Trivia

  • Released in 1982 as the second single from Queen's *Hot Space*, the video reflected the band's temporary move toward funk, dance, and R&B-influenced material.
  • The clip became the first music video banned by MTV. The network objected to its homoerotic undertones and extensive displays of human flesh, even though the members of Queen themselves remained fully clothed.
  • There is no full nudity in the video. Its controversial effect comes from the combination of skimpy Lycra clothing, glistening bodies, steam-room imagery, and suggestive physical interaction.
  • The promotional video was filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and runs for approximately five minutes.
  • Freddie Mercury appears wearing glasses, an unusual visual detail that places him in the role of an observer amid the dancers' tightly choreographed activity.
