Synopsis

In a stylized mental hospital, each member of 'N Sync is shown dealing with the emotional fallout of a breakup. Flashbacks reveal different relationship disasters: missed attention, rejection, betrayal, jealousy, and infidelity. As their memories become increasingly distorted, the men descend into exaggerated states of lovesick madness, with frantic behavior replacing their earlier sadness. The visual twist arrives when they are released and their former girlfriends are brought into the institution, allowing the band to escape while turning the song's heartbreak theme into broad comic melodrama.

• The video was filmed at California State University Channel Islands, whose site had previously been the Camarillo State Mental Hospital. The hospital had closed in 1997, shortly before filming.

• The group's members contributed individual ideas for the breakup scenarios. Joey Fatone later explained that each member developed a personal story about how love had driven him crazy.

• The video debuted on MTV's Total Request Live on April 1, 1999.

• The song had different titles in different markets. It was released in the United States as "I Drive Myself Crazy," while "Thinking of You (I Drive Myself Crazy)" was used elsewhere.
