Synopsis

Presented like a compact old-Western adventure, the video follows Mo Thugs and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony as a crew of outlaw riders. Krayzie Bone appears as the lead gunslinger, traveling west with a sawed-off shotgun and plans to rob banks. Along the way, he encounters Thug Queen, a wanted horse thief, before joining Layzie Bone and Powder P for the next job. Western title cards, cowboy imagery, horses, saloon-style settings, and performance scenes reinforce the video's playful frontier atmosphere.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Ghetto Cowboy" was released as the lead single from Mo Thugs Family's 1998 album *Chapter II: Family Reunion*.
  • The single was credited to Mo Thugs Family featuring Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, with vocals from Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone, Powder P, Thug Queen, and Felecia.
  • The video leans into the song's unusual country-rap concept by presenting the track as a miniature Western rather than a conventional urban performance clip.
  • The song's production is marked by a galloping horse sound, prominent harmonica, and a hook built around a familiar "count your money" refrain. The arrangement helped make the track one of Mo Thugs' most distinctive recordings.
  • "Ghetto Cowboy" reached No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Hot Rap Singles chart.
  • The 1998 commercial single was issued in several forms, including a video edit, album version, clean version, instrumental, and acapella.
  • The song became a notable early example of hip-hop using cowboy and frontier imagery years before country-rap crossover became a more established mainstream trend.

Lyrics

You betta count your money (Repeat 8X)

[Krayzie Bone]
The name is Krazie, big bad ass bone
Wanted up north for all the gold that I stole
Along with some cash, even took the mayors daughter
That that there's kidnapped, now she was with her
so I brought her
Done got myself into a whole heep of trouble
Double crossed by the law so theres nobody to run to
Yeah its just me and my sawed off shotgun
Outlaw call him Leather Face
