Synopsis

The Manic Street Preachers perform inside a dark, ornate room dominated by a large feature window. Outside, the weather shifts dramatically between bright sunshine and violent storms, creating a visual contrast between warmth and emotional turmoil. The straightforward band performance is interrupted by surreal touches, including animated birds and rabbits that appear around the musicians. The playful imagery offsets the song's melancholy lyrics, turning a conventional performance video into something strange, theatrical, and distinctly Manics-like.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was made for the third single from *This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours*, released in the UK on March 8, 1999.

• The single reached No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming one of the band's major late-1990s hits.

• Its central visual idea is the contrast between light and darkness: the band remains inside while sunshine and storms alternate beyond the window.

• The unexpected rabbits and animated birds give the performance an absurdist edge, making the video more memorable than a conventional studio performance clip.

• Sean Moore created the song's drum loop from the sound of a pinball machine, an unusual source for one of the track's rhythmic elements.

• Nicky Wire said the lyrics reflect his dislike of touring. Although he enjoyed performing, he disliked the travel, hotels, soundchecks, and homesickness associated with life on the road.

• The lyric "no real truce with my fury" refers to R. S. Thomas' poetry collection *No Truce with the Furies*.

• The song later appeared on the band's 2002 greatest-hits compilation *Forever Delayed*.
