Synopsis

Shot in the Bahamas, the video places Lenny Kravitz in a relaxed, sunlit island setting that matches the song's tropical groove. He sings and dances among local residents, rides a bicycle through the streets, and moves between intimate performance shots and wide views of the sea. The clip closes in on the song's sensual, devotional mood as Kravitz performs partly submerged in the ocean. Rather than following a conventional narrative, it presents the Bahamas as a living backdrop for freedom, affection, and spiritual surrender.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed in the Bahamas, a location with personal significance for Kravitz because his mother, actress Roxie Roker, had family roots there.

• Its street scenes, communal dancing, bicycle riding, and ocean imagery extend the song's reggae and Caribbean influence beyond the audio arrangement.

• "I Belong to You" was released in 1998 as the third single from Kravitz's album "5." The video belongs to the same period, when the album was expanding his audience in Europe and beyond.

• Kravitz once explained that the song was about God, even though its lyrics can easily be heard as a declaration of romantic devotion. The video's mixture of sensuality, nature, and spiritual imagery leaves both readings open.
