Synopsis

The video opens on an aerial view of a street map, where an orange "you are here" marker becomes a giant painted circle on the ground. The camera descends toward a house at the center of the mark and passes through its curtains into a gray room, where The Human League perform with instruments. Outside, two boys play soccer, and the orange circle changes the color of one boy and the ball as they cross into it. The video ends by reversing the journey back to the map.

Factoids & Trivia

• The outdoor footage was filmed in Newham, East London, in an area awaiting demolition and redevelopment during the early-1980s Docklands changes.

• The orange marker was created physically rather than added as a digital effect. The house, surrounding pavement, sections of roadway, and a nearby Austin 1800 were all painted orange.

• The location was around First Avenue and Third Avenue, London. The house was demolished shortly after filming, making the video a record of a neighborhood that no longer exists.

• Although the exterior was filmed on location, the band's performance scenes were shot in a studio. The gray room, instruments, microphones, and performers create a deliberately controlled contrast with the brightly colored street.

• The group members appear to play instruments throughout the performance. Philip Oakey explained that this was intended to show American audiences that The Human League were a real performing group rather than a manufactured pop act.

• Susanne Sulley later recalled that the house was still occupied by a family while the exterior was being painted and filmed.
