Synopsis

Hooverphonic's "Eden" follows the band as they discover an abandoned television on the roadside. After loading it onto their car, they take the set to a repair shop, where the image of Geike Arnaert appears to move between different televisions. The strange encounter turns the broken object into a mysterious portal between the band's physical world and the singer's televised presence. When the repaired set is returned, the journey resumes, but a careless final ride leaves the television unsecured, with the surreal connection ending in a crash.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Eden" was released in 1998 as the third single from Hooverphonic's second album, *Blue Wonder Power Milk*.
  • The video uses an old television set as its central visual device, giving the song's themes of emotional distance and unreachable intimacy a literal form.
  • Geike Arnaert is the lead vocalist heard on the recording, while Alex Callier wrote the song and also contributes backing vocals.
  • The track combines Hooverphonic's trip-hop atmosphere with live drums, French horn, and oboe. The orchestral colors help distinguish it from a purely electronic production.
  • The single was mixed at Plus XXX Studios in Paris, with Mark Plati handling the mix and production alongside Hooverphonic.
  • "Eden" appeared on the soundtrack of the 1998 film *I Still Know What You Did Last Summer*. It was also used in the television series *La Femme Nikita*.
  • Sarah Brightman recorded a cover of "Eden" for her 1998 album of the same name, bringing the composition to a different audience in a more orchestral, classical-crossover setting.
  • The original single included "Tuna" as its B-side. Later editions also featured remixes by Kid Loco and another mix titled "Another Bad Dream on Plastic."

Lyrics

Did you ever think of me
As your best friend

Did I ever think of you
I'm not complaining

I never tried to feel
I never tried to feel this vibration
I never tried to reach
I never tried to reach your eden

Did I ever think of you
As my enemy
