Synopsis

Freddie Mercury performs "Made In Heaven" as a flamboyant monarch presiding over a surreal operatic spectacle. Set inside a lavish theater-like environment, the video combines dramatic lighting, theatrical staging, elaborate costumes, ballet-inspired movement, and imagery of a collapsing hilltop that reveals a spinning globe. Mercury alternates between commanding performance poses and more intimate close-ups, presenting the song as both a grand declaration of love and a celebration of his larger-than-life artistic persona.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Made In Heaven" was released in the United Kingdom on July 1, 1985, as the second single from Freddie Mercury's solo album *Mr. Bad Guy*.
  • The production was filmed in a North London warehouse because conventional studios did not have enough ceiling height for Mercury's planned set.
  • A replica of the Royal Opera House proscenium was constructed inside the warehouse, giving the video its grand theatrical setting.
  • Mercury's passion for ballet strongly influenced the production. The visual concept drew inspiration from *Dante's Inferno* and Igor Stravinsky's *The Rite of Spring*.
  • In one of the video's most ambitious effects, Mercury appears elevated approximately 67 feet above the ground on a simulated hilltop. Safety wires were used during the shoot.
  • The dramatic black-and-red outfit was designed by Diana Moseley and made by Ken White. The costume included red leggings, a vinyl bodice, and a long red silk cape.
  • The song later became the title track of Queen's 1995 album *Made in Heaven*. Queen subsequently reworked Mercury's solo recording with new instrumentation, turning it into a posthumous Queen release.

Lyrics

I want to gaze into your eyes and see the fire in their glow
But it's the same old story
Want you to melt inside my arms like falling rain upon the snow
But you say no, you say no
Want you to help me thru deep waters when my ship is in a storm
Want you to give me all the power like a king on his throne
But you don't care, you don't care
History repeats itself, I seem to be all by myself again.

Come into my life, it's a manmade paradise
Come into my life, it's a manmade paradise
Come into my life, it's a manmade paradise
Come into my life, it's a manmade paradise, paradise
