Synopsis

A mysterious man rushes into a burning house while the Foo Fighters perform inside, seemingly oblivious to the unfolding disaster. Moving through smoke and flames, he rescues a baby, then returns for a dog. His final trip retrieves a framed photograph, revealing the personal reason behind his determination. The man's face is never shown, keeping the focus on his actions rather than his identity. The video presents heroism as anonymous, immediate, and rooted in ordinary human compassion.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video is designed to look like one uninterrupted tracking shot. Several hidden cuts are concealed by smoke, darkness, and movement inside the burning building.

• The rescuer's face is never revealed. This turns him into an anonymous symbol rather than a specific character.

• The baby's and dog's eyes are deliberately obscured, adding to the video's dreamlike, slightly unsettling visual style.

• Dave Grohl described "My Hero" as being about ordinary people rather than celebrities or traditional larger-than-life heroes. The video's central character directly reflects that idea.

• Although the song was recorded before Franz Stahl joined the Foo Fighters, Stahl appears with the band in the performance scenes. He had replaced Pat Smear by the time the video was made.

• "My Hero" was released as the third single from *The Colour and the Shape* on January 19, 1998.

• The video concept was later parodied in the 2001 comedy *Not Another Teen Movie*, helping preserve its burning-building imagery in pop-culture memory.
