Synopsis

The video presents Failure in a stylized, high-contrast fantasy built from James Bond-style title-sequence imagery. The musicians appear amid saturated colors, silhouetted figures, sweeping camera movements, and abstract visual motifs, while a female figure and band performance are woven into the graphic design. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the clip turns the song's obsessive pull into a sleek, dreamlike spectacle, with the band seemingly caught inside a rotating world of desire, danger, and pop-cinematic iconography.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Stuck on You" was the lead single from Failure's third album, *Fantastic Planet*, released in 1996.
  • The video is modeled closely on the opening title sequence of the James Bond film *The Spy Who Loved Me*, particularly its silhouetted figures, bold color palette, and flowing bodies.
  • Although Troy Van Leeuwen appears in the video, he did not play on the recording. He joined Failure after the album had been recorded.
  • The clip received limited exposure on MTV but became one of the band's most recognizable visual statements.
  • The video was later included with Failure's 2004 compilation *Golden*.
  • In 2020, the band released a restored version made from the original 16mm camera negative. The accompanying audio was also remastered from the original analog tape.

Lyrics

I HEARD YOU DRIVING IN MY CAR
THEN IN A FROZEN BAR
I CLAIMED I DIDN'T CARE FOR YOU
BUT YOUR VERSE GOT TRAPPED INSIDE MY HEAD
OVER AND OVER AGAIN
YOU PLAYED YOURSELF TO DEATH IN ME

I THOUGHT I'D DROP YOU EASILY
BUT THAT WAS NOT TO BE
YOU BURROWED LIKE A SUMMER TIC
SO YOU INVADE MY SLEEP AND CONFUSE MY DREAMS
TURN MY NIGHTS TO SLEEPLESS ITCH
