• "Hole Hearted" was released in September 1991 as the fourth and final single from *Extreme II: Pornograffitti*. It reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Extreme's second-highest-charting single after "More Than Words."

• The track was recorded from an unusually rough home demo. Nuno Bettencourt later explained that he taped a headset microphone to his knee to capture the acoustic guitar in Gary Cherone's basement. When the band tried to recreate the recording in a professional studio, they felt the original performance had a quality they could not reproduce, so the demo tracks were transferred for use in the finished recording.

• Bettencourt wrote the song shortly after receiving a 12-string guitar. The album was nearly complete when the instrument arrived, and the song was developed very quickly.
