Synopsis

En Vogue perform the breakup ballad in a surreal, theatrical interior populated by motionless, mannequin-like figures. The trio move through the stylized setting while addressing a former lover who wants another chance, but has waited too long. Their polished poses, expressive close-ups, and dramatic group performances emphasize the song's message of emotional finality. The video presents the women as poised and self-possessed, turning a conventional power ballad into an elegant, slightly uncanny meditation on rejection and regained control.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video accompanied En Vogue's 1997 single from the album "EV3," the group's third and final single from the record.
  • "Too Gone, Too Long" was written by Diane Warren and produced by David Foster, giving En Vogue a more overtly adult-contemporary power-ballad setting than their earlier funk and R&B hits.
  • The clip was released during En Vogue's transition from a quartet to a trio. Dawn Robinson had left the group before "EV3" was completed, leaving Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones to carry the album's promotional campaign.
  • The single reached No. 33 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 20 on the UK Singles Chart.
  • The video stands apart from the straightforward glamour of many 1990s R&B clips through its frozen figures and staged, almost dreamlike environment.
