Synopsis

Deee-Lite trade the nightclub for a bright outdoor escape in this carefree summer video. Lady Miss Kier lounges and rolls around on the grass while the group and other participants dance, leap, and enjoy the open air. The playful presentation mixes sunny picnic imagery with wide-angle fisheye shots, giving faces and movements a warped, cartoonish quality. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the clip turns the song's relaxed, flirtatious mood into a colorful daydream about getting outside, feeling good, and letting the groove take over.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Picnic In The Summertime" appeared on Dewdrops In The Garden, Deee-Lite's third and final studio album, released in 1994.

• Contemporary video coverage noted the clip's change of setting: instead of the group's familiar club-oriented imagery, it emphasized green grass, sunshine, and outdoor movement.

• The video's fisheye photography noticeably distorts Lady Miss Kier's face and the performers' movements, reinforcing the song's playful, dreamlike character.

• The recording was mixed at Axis Recording Studio in New York City. The song credits list Lady Miss Kier, Ani Schempf, and Super DJ Dmitry among its writers and producers.

• A companion Japanese remix release, Dewdrops In The Remix, included several alternate versions of "Picnic In The Summertime."
