Synopsis

Set around London's Met Bar, the "War of Nerves" video follows All Saints through a series of moody, urban vignettes. The group perform separately and together inside the bar while city imagery, including a London bus carrying an All Saints advertisement, expands the setting beyond the club. Melanie Blatt appears singing behind the glass of a shower, her pregnancy visible as a silhouette. Elsewhere, Natalie and Nicole Appleton have a tense confrontation in a garage before ultimately comforting one another.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed at the Met Bar in London's Metropolitan Hotel, a well-known nightlife venue at the time.
  • A London bus carrying an All Saints advertisement appears in the video. The real-life campaign was visible around London during the period of the single's release.
  • Melanie Blatt's pregnancy was incorporated into the concept. Her shower scene was designed to show her pregnant stomach in silhouette rather than conceal it.
  • The garage sequence involving sisters Natalie and Nicole Appleton moves from physical confrontation to reconciliation, giving the video a personal counterpoint to its polished group-performance scenes.
  • "War of Nerves" was released on November 23, 1998, as the final single from All Saints' debut album.
  • The single reached No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart and was certified silver in the United Kingdom.
  • A version of the video was included on the CD single release and runs for approximately five minutes.

world's business to the mind,
and all I see is what used to be,

my life could seem via memory.

I don't never want to feel your pain, (ooohhhhh)
wanna be ready when you call my name,
